The Universal Testing Machine is used to test the mechanical properties of a given material specimen, component, structure, and product. In this case, tensile and compression tests are performed to determine its mechanical properties.

Determining the strength of materials is fundamental for the design of a product, not only in defining the safety limits, but also the quality of the materials used.

Tensile mechanical properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation are measured, in addition to other specific properties such as anisotropic behavior or thermal hardening potentials.

The tensile test consists of applying a uniaxial force to the material, tending to elongate it until the moment of fracture. For analyses of specific features, auxiliary equipment such as an automatic strain gauge or a video strain gauge is used.

The surface state is the result of repetitive or random deviations from the geometric surface that form the three-dimensional topography of a surface. It is comprised of the roughness, waviness, orientation of irregularities, imperfections, and shape deviations in a limited area of the surface.

The method of measuring surface states consists of quantifying the directional deviations of the vector in a normal plane to the surface considered.

Using a roughness meter, it is possible to collect all the relevant information in this three-dimensional state and develop products that meet the surface finish desired by the customer.

To ensure the effectiveness of the measurement systems, it is necessary to ensure the selection and maintenance of the various instruments and measuring equipment, namely the control and management of verifications and calibrations.

Internally, dynamic control processes are streamlined for the verification of the various measuring and monitoring equipment.

Gravimetric analysis, or gravimetry, is a quantitative analytical method whose process involves the separation and weighing of an element or a compound of the element in the purest possible form. This is the appropriate methodology for the accurate measurement of metal coatings. Alternatively, the more common magnetic tests can be used.

For identification of surface and subsurface discontinuities, a type of Nondestructive Testing called "Eddy Current" is used.

This method is based on the principle of inducing a current of known value that, through an electromagnetic principle, generates induced currents in the sample under analysis.

A change in the path of these currents generates a signal that will be associated with a discontinuity in the test specimen.

Although all lines are equipped with encircling probe equipment, the manual equipment allows not only for an analysis in the field or of a final part, but also for the analysis in manufacturing of any specificity or customer requirement.

Microstructure has a strong influence on the mechanical properties and application success of metals and alloys. The determination and control of the microstructure requires the use of metallographic examination. Other uses of metallographic examination are failure analysis and research and development.

Metallography is one of the most important metallurgical tools, especially in the multiplicity of control it permits, such as macrographs on thermally affected zones, thicknesses and structures of metallic coatings, or simply in the control of grain and possible rolling defects.

This technique is one of the most common for determining the chemical composition of metallic materials and can be used in the different stages of the production cycle, such as: receiving materials, processing raw material, and quality control of the final product.

Optical emission spectrometry (OES) involves the application of electrical energy between an electrode and the sample, in which a plasma discharge is generated. This creates a unique emission spectrum for each element, and the intensity of each emission spectrum will depend on the concentration of the element in the sample. For the type of analysis of small traces of some elements present in the analyzed materials micro-alloyed low carbon steel, Zinc Z1 and aluminum, the equipment uses a hybrid functionality, linking the capability of the photomultipliers to the dynamics of the CMD's.

The test measures the amount of energy absorbed by the impact of a hammer/impactor of known total energy against a standardized specimen at a given temperature. The possible test temperature range is from 20 to -60 °C with KV and KU notches.

The test is performed by a pendulum that is released at a pre-defined height toward the specimen causing it to break. The elevation height of the hammer after impact provides the energy absorbed by the specimen.
